Every year, for three weeks, something special happens inside CrossFit Influence. The music gets louder, the cheers get bigger, and the high-fives last a little longer. It is called the Influence Open, our in-house, team-based competition that runs alongside the worldwide CrossFit Open. On the surface, it looks like a fitness competition with teams, weekly workouts, Friday night events, points, and a championship banner. In reality, it is about something much bigger than competition. It is about community.
What Is the Influence Open?
If you step inside the gym on a Friday night during the Open, you will see people of all ages and fitness levels stepping up to challenge themselves, not because they have to, but because their team is standing behind them. You will see beginners doing their very first Open workout next to members who have been training for years. You will see athletes pushing for personal bests. Most importantly, you will see something that is rare in today’s world: a room full of adults cheering enthusiastically for someone else’s success.
Where Else Does This Happen?
Consider how uncommon that is. Where else do adults gather and genuinely celebrate each other’s effort? Where else does your name get shouted across the room because you finished something hard? Where do teammates hug you after a tough workout and sincerely want you to succeed? Many environments in life feel competitive in a way that diminishes people. At the Influence Open, competition brings people together and lifts them up. Members are not competing against the person next to them. They are challenging their own doubts, fears, and limitations, and they do it with a team supporting them every step of the way.
It’s Not About Being “Fit Enough”
One of the biggest misconceptions about the Open, and about CrossFit in general, is that you need to be in incredible shape to participate. That belief keeps many people on the sidelines. The truth is that every workout has multiple versions, including RX, Scaled, and Foundations. That means the same energy and excitement apply whether someone is lifting heavy or just learning the movements. Some of the loudest cheers come when a brand-new member finishes their first Open workout. The Influence Open is not about perfection. It is about participation, growth, and the courage to show up.
Why This Matters (Especially Today)
This matters, especially in a time when many people feel disconnected. Work often happens remotely. Conversations take place through screens. Encouragement can feel rare. The Influence Open creates intentional connection. Teammates communicate throughout the week, coordinate heat times, judge each other’s workouts, dress up for weekly themes, and celebrate progress together. It becomes more than an event. It becomes a shared experience and shared effort, and for many members, it is the highlight of their year.
For Potential New Members Reading This
For anyone considering joining CrossFit Influence, the Influence Open offers a clear picture of what this community is about. You do not join this gym just to work out. You join to belong. The Open simply magnifies what already exists here year-round: encouragement over ego, effort over perfection, support over comparison, and community over isolation. You do not need to be fit to start. You do not need to get in shape before walking through the door. You only need to be willing to show up.
At CrossFit Influence, you will be met where you are. And when you face something challenging, you will not face it alone. You will have an entire room of people ready to remind you what you are capable of. In a world where it is easy to feel unnoticed, there is something powerful about walking into a place where people know your name and genuinely want to see you succeed.
