Over the years, I have had clients point to just about every body part and say, “I want to lose fat right here.”
The most common ones are the stomach, the hips or butt, and the spot under the arms that loves to wobble.
Here’s the honest truth about losing fat in any of those places, and everywhere else too.
You cannot target fat loss in a specific body part.
I know there are ads everywhere promising to burn belly fat, slim your legs, or melt fat off one spot. Those are empty promises. There is no pill, wrap, lotion, supplement, or special workout that magically removes fat from one area.
What actually works is reducing overall body fat.
Your body decides where fat comes off first and where it hangs on the longest. But when you lose fat in general, those problem areas improve right along with everything else.
You can also speed up the process by building a little muscle. And no, this does not mean getting bulky. We are talking about small, gradual increases in muscle that help your body burn more calories and look more defined. The bulky fear is a myth, but we will save that conversation for another time.
Our Fat Loss Program
So how do we actually use fitness to lose body fat and build muscle?
There are plenty of ways to do it. This is how we do it, and it works. You do not have to take my word for it. Ask any of our members.
At CrossFit Influence, we use a mix of strength training and conditioning to help you burn calories, build muscle, and get stronger. That means we are not just running for 30 minutes or only lifting weights for a few sets and calling it good. We program with purpose, so every workout is designed to move you closer to your goals.
Some days, a workout has two parts. One focuses more on strength, and one focuses more on conditioning. Other days, we blend them together. That might look like doing five barbell back squats at a certain weight, followed by a 200-meter run, repeated several times. Some days, the main focus is strength. Other days it is conditioning. Over time though, you are consistently training both.
The result is simple. You get stronger. You build muscle. You burn calories and body fat.
When you do this consistently, you start to notice real changes. Your clothes fit better. You see more definition. You feel better in your body. You can also clearly see progress in your workout log. No, your abs are not going to magically pop out overnight. That takes time. But the changes are real, and they add up.
Here is another important piece. You can accelerate your results by improving your nutrition. And yes, we help with that too.
So think about the spot you want to lose fat. The one you are probably pointing to right now.
